Are you really supposed to use the phone unsupervised?
I just had a phonecall from a gentleman who I strongly suspect was quite mad.

The actual content of the call was effectively: "Is so-and-so there? No? I'll send him an email, then." And yet somehow it went on a risibly long time.

I suspect it was a long time, because over the course of it, my screensaver appeared.

The fellow rambled on in lengthy, unbroken sentences so garbled I could only pick out the odd word. He did pause sometimes to laugh at something he had said that he had found particularly amusing. The occasional "mm" on my part was sufficient fuel to keep him going, and when I made the mistake of asking his name I got his full career history.

I think he's on his own in the office a lot. He must be lonely. Someone should buy him a mirror.

In other news, happy birthday, Freddie! And to your great glory, I offer two shiny new subtitled episodes of Mononoke.

Errm, well, maybe tonight? I'll drop you chaps a line at lunchtime and see if that's possible. If not, then soon, I'm sure. ^_^

I dunno if a mirror will help...I have several and I am still quite mad and fairly lonely! ;)

Ah, but my dear, you're also a bit cleverer than this gentleman seemed to be. I mean, he might not notice that it's a mirror rather than another person willing to listen to him chatter endlessly. ^_~

Your voice must've been the first human voice he's heard in ages, I'd imagine. :3

Sadly, you're probably right. There's a reason why his workmates are out of the office so much, I suspect... In fact, they've probably had to work away for about six months now.

In an odd coincidence, that's also how long he's been with the company... ^_~

But they might trick him into thinking he has a friend in the office who he can babble incessantly to, rather than calling other companies in a desperate bid for attention. ^_^;

That same thing happened to me, except it started different. I got a random text-message on my phone from someone I didn't know telling me to Have a Merry X-mas. When, confused (and thinking it was maybe a friend I didn't have in my phone), I replied that I didn't celebrate that, the person replies back asking me since when. "Since, er, ever." "What? Who is this? Is this Carlos?"

Since texting costs extra for me, I didn't want to keep this thing up, so I just called him in the end to tell him "...no. No it's not. You have the wrong number." I thought it would end there, right? It didn't. We talked for forty five minutes about just random stuff. He told me who he was, what he did, where he came from, what he wants to be, and I sorta just replied with bits of advice and sounds of acknowledgement. Then he asked if I wouldn't mind talking to him once in a while to answer his questions, since I seemed Smart.

...he followed up too. Haven't heard from him in a while, but the whole thing went on for a good few months.

Now that is bizarre. I have someone who occasionally texts my phone, clearly thinking I'm someone else. I've never replied, though.

I definitely won't, now!
